YSU rolls over Morehead State

Youngstown State scored on every offensive possession of the first half and built a 43-6 first half lead against Morehead St.

YSU took an 8-0 lead early in the first quarter after a Kurt Hess to Andre Stubbs 5-yard touchdown pass.  The Penguins were successful on the two-point conversion.  It was a nine play 67-yard opening drive for YSU.

Youngstown State’s next possession put points on the scoreboard.  Hess found Andrew Williams inside the five-yard line.  Williams then worked his way into the end zone for the touchdown.  The extra point was good and the Penguins led 15-0.

Later in the quarter, Hess went to the air for another touchdown hooking up with Marcel Caver on a 43-yard touchdown pass.  Youngstown State led 22-0 after the third touchdown pass by Hess.

The Penguins first score in the second quarter came when freshman running back Martin Ruiz powered his way into the end zone on a 14-yard touchdown run.  That made the score 29-0.

Later in the second quarter, YSU put six more on the board when Jody Webb scored on a nine yard scamper.  The extra point was good and the Penguins led 36-0.

Torian Pace capped the first half scoring with a four-yard touchdown run just before halftime.  YSU’s halftime lead was 43-6.

Kurt Hess finished the half going 16/19 for 283 yards and three touchdowns.  As a team the Penguins finished the first half with over 400 total yards.

YSU would add three more rushing TD’s in the 2nd half with a 7 yard & 34 yard run from Webb, and a 41 yard blast from Ruiz.

Penguins win 67-13 and improve to 2-0 on the season. YSU will travel to Michigan State next Saturday.
