Ex-Ohio officer pleads guilty to assaulting inmate

CLEVELAND (AP) — A former northeast Ohio corrections officer has pleaded guilty to a charge accusing him of assaulting an inmate.

U.S. Attorney Steven Dettelbach in Cleveland on Tuesday announced the plea of 47-year-old Marlon Taylor, of Vermilion. Taylor has been charged for depriving an unidentified inmate from the right to be free from cruel and unusual punishment.

Prosecutors allege Taylor on July 2012 repeatedly struck and injured the inmate at the Lorain County Jail.

Taylor is scheduled to be sentenced in December. His attorney did not immediately return a request for comment.

Dettelbach’s office says conviction carries a maximum 10-year prison sentence and a $250,000 fine.
