A Youngstown man who has been convicted of rape and felonious assault was charged Tuesday with grabbing a woman downtown and dragging her behind a building last week.

Manteen Ed Abdullah, 51, of East Princeton Avenue, was charged in Youngstown Municipal Court with second-degree felony abduction. He will be arraigned Wednesday.

Police said a woman was walking at about 7 p.m. Sept. 3 downtown on Commerce Street near Hazel Avenue when Abdullah approached her and asked why she was walking alone.

The woman said she told Abdullah she was meeting her boyfriend at Taco Bell.

Police said Abdullah then grabbed her hair and asked for a kiss. The woman tried to run but Abdullah grabbed her shirt and pushed her towards the parking lot behind the Voinovich Building. Abdullah then told the woman “If you scream I will kill you,” police said.

The woman broke free and fled. Police said they conducted an extensive investigation that included reviewing multiple surveillance videos but were unable to identify Abdullah.

Police said on Monday the woman saw Abdullah walking downtown, called police and kept surveillance on him until police arrested him.

Abdullah was convicted of rape in Tennessee and felonious assault elsewhere in Ohio, police said.
