New diner planned

A new diner is set to open in the Boardman area.

The old diner that sits on the corner of South Avenue and U.S. Route 224 is being cleaned up and worked on by a new owner.

The space has been vacant for several years.

It will be named Oldies and Goodies Diner. Owner Thomas Giannisis said they will serve classic homemade diner food for patrons.

He said the location of the diner will play a big role in the success of the business. Giannisis said he hopes to open the diner in late September or early October.

“In the diner business, location is the first thing that you are looking for,” he said. “It is a very nice corner, a lot of traffic, a lot of businesses around here. I think this will do really well around here.”
