Firefighters helped rescue a woman in Trumbull County who became trapped in her car after she ended up in a creek.
The accident happened around 10 a.m. Friday on Newton Falls Bailey Road in Lordstown.
Police said Ruth Shaunts, 60, was driving around a curve when she tried to slow down but lost control and went into the creek and water began to fill the car. Shaunts was able to call 911 but couldn’t tell the dispatcher exactly where she was.
Shaunts’ daughter Adele Michaels said she is glad it was not as bad as it sounded when she was talking to her mother on the phone.
“She made it sound a lot worse,” said Michaels. “I had visions of her trying to go through water, and it was filling up too fast for her and a bunch of terrible images.”
Crews were able to get the car out, but the vehicle is a total loss.
