Over 5,000 cross-country runners from all over laced up for the Boardman Spartan Invitational on Saturday.
The early season meet had 380 school teams competing in 14 different races. The invitational attracted teams from Western Pennsylvania, and in years past, runners came from as far as Virginia.
Organizers estimated there were at least 20,000 spectators cheering runners on.
“This is certainly the largest meet to come to Boardman. We increase by a few hundred runners every year. This is the 28th annual here. This is arguably one of the biggest meets for school teams only in Ohio,” said David Pavlansky, Co-Meet Manager.
Organizers said hosting the event wouldn’t be possible without the help of hundreds of parents, teachers and custodians who worked for months to make the meet happen.
