Girlfriend of man shot in standoff held for trial

LATROBE, Pa. (AP) — The girlfriend of a western Pennsylvania man killed after a July standoff with police is heading to trial on charges she provided him with stolen guns.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Monday that prosecutors say 25-year-old Julian Upholster of Latrobe allegedly stole guns from her roommate and gave them to Scott Murphy, who kept tactical officers at bay across nearly 17 hours before he opened fire, injuring one trooper.

Upholster’s attorney Michael D. Ferguson says she didn’t know why Murphy wanted the guns.

Murphy held up a Latrobe pharmacy one day after Upholster allegedly gave him the guns. Latrobe is about 40 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

Trooper Brian King is recovering from an eye injury he suffered after he was shot during the standoff.
