Jury selection begins in death of boy in Pa. hotel

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Jury selection has begun in the trial of a West Virginia woman charged with homicide in the drowning death of her 2-year-old son in a Pittsburgh-area hotel last year.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (http://bit.ly/1aE4lxA ) says prosecutors are seeking a first-degree murder conviction against 34-year-old Sharon Flanagan of Inwood, W.Va.

Allegheny County authorities said she gave inconsistent accounts of the events in July 2012 at the Green Tree hotel, where Steven Flanagan was found unconscious in the bathtub.

Officials in West Virginia said she had threatened to kill herself and the child in the past. Her attorney has said she didn’t mean to harm her son.
