The nation’s weather

Weather Underground Forecast for Tuesday, September 17, 2013.

A cold front will make its way through the northern Rockies and parts of the northern Plains on Tuesday, while a separate cold front will trek through the Southeast. The Southwest will remain warm and dry, while the Northeast can expect clear conditions as a cold front moves off of the coast.

Remnants of Tropical Storm Ingrid will likely cause spotty showers and thunderstorms to occur in southern Texas on Tuesday, although conditions should taper off through the evening. A cold front boundary extending from the southern Plains to the Northeast coast will bring rain and thunderstorms to the Southeastern states. This front will be well off of the Eastern Seaboard by Tuesday, giving rise to clear conditions in the Northeast. The central Plains, as well as parts of the northern Plains, can expect widespread showers and thunderstorms, both from the cold front previously mentioned, as well as a separate cold front moving out of the Pacific Northwest. Although wet weather is expected for much of the Plains, the northern Plains can expect temperatures to be 10 to 20 degrees above average for this time of year.

The Pacific Northwest will experience cool, wet conditions throughout much of Tuesday as a cold front exits the region. Showers are likely to occur along the coast throughout the day, while thunderstorms will develop further East. The Southwest will continue to sit under high pressure, causing warm, dry conditions. The Great Basin, including the central Rockies, will catch a breather from rain and flooding on Tuesday as a stationary front approaches the region. .

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Monday have ranged from a morning low of 26 degrees at Bigfork, Minn. to a high of 107 degrees at Palm Springs, Calif.
