Home Savings donates to history center

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center received a $25,000 donation on Wednesday from the Home Savings Charitable Foundation.

The museum will be naming their gift shop after Home Savings because of the donation. They hope to be open in 2014 but still need to raise more than $1 million to make it happen.

“We were off to a great start in 2008, but in September of 2008 us and the rest of the country had a lot of setbacks with the Great Recession,” said Mahoning Valley Historical Society Executive Director Bill Lawson. “Starting again in 2009, we started getting a lot of pledges and gifts again and the community is still coming out strong.”

Lawson said the gift shop will have large and small items, including Good Humor ice cream.
