Pa. woman charged in 2003 infant death

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A woman has been returned from Alabama to Pennsylvania to face charges in the 2003 death of her infant son.

Thirty-year-old Wendi Leanne Hooper Stanford was being held without bail Thursday on charges of homicide and child endangerment.

Two-month-old Christopher Harbin died in Nov. 2003, two days after Stanford called 911 to report he was unresponsive. An autopsy determined that the baby died from a skull fracture.

Lehigh County prosecutors said there was never evidence beyond a reasonable doubt that would allow for charges. That changed when the case was recently re-examined and investigators conducted a new round of interviews.

Stanford and the boy’s father are divorced.
