NORTH LIMA – Behind a huge game from Joe Alessi, the South Range Raiders offense pulled away in the second half to pick up the big victory over Crestview, 49-35.
Crestview opened up the scoring in the first quarter, behind a big run by Colin Gilbert who broke free for a 51 yard touchdown run.
But, as has happened the entire first half, the Raiders would answer with Joe Alessi leading the way.
The first of his four first half touchdowns came from 25 yards out in the first quarter and brought the Raiders within a point.
Then, on the first play of the second quarter, it was Alessi again, this time from 60 yards out, to give South Range their first lead.
The Rebels would come right back on Trevor Cope’s five yard run to take back the lead, 14-13.
But, Alessi would find the endzone again to put the Raiders up again, this time from 15 yards out.
Then as the half was coming to an end, it was Alessi once again finding the endzone from 36 yards out, giving South Range a 27-21 lead.
Late in the third quarter, the Raiders would gamble on a 4th and 5. Ryan Miller would hit Bryce Allen on a 22 yard touchdown pass to push their lead to 34-21.
Needing a boost, the Rebels turned to their special teams. Zack Hicks would take a punt back 55 yards for the score to give Crestview life with less than 10 minutes to remain in the game.
But, it was Alessi who shined the brightest, scoring his fifth touchdown late in the fourth quarter from 10 yards out.
Following an interception by Greg Dunham, David McCabe would find the endzone on a 15 yard run to put the game completely out of reach.
But the Rebels would not stop as Jessie Best hauled in a 16 yard touchdown pass with :21 seconds remaining in the game.
