Senator helps serve breakfast

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — William Holmes McGuffey Elementary School students in Youngstown enjoyed the most important meal of the day with a special visitor.

State Sen. Joe Schiavoni, D-Boardman, helped serve breakfast Friday to students in kindergarten through sixth grade.

Schiavoni was joined by two representatives from the Children’s Hunger Alliance. The non-profit group ensures all children in Ohio are fed regular and nutritious meals to develop healthy, lifelong habits.

“We’re working on trying to make sure that students come in prepared and ready to learn because this is just part of the equation,” said Schiavoni. “I’m glad that Youngstown City Schools and a lot of schools across the state are dealing with this issue so that we can at least give every student the opportunity to do the best they can.”

The district offers a free breakfast to all students as well as lunch, which includes fresh fruits and vegetables.
