Springfield beats rival


NEW MIDDLETOWN – In a defensive battle, it was the Springfield Tigers that scored just enough to pick up a big win over Columbiana, 9-0.

Scores throughout most of the game, the Tigers finally broke the tie late in the second half  on a Matthew Leach 34 yard field goal to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

Then, pinned back in their own zone later in the quarter, Ryan Kohler took a hand off and broke free for an 88 yard touchdown run to push the score to 9-0.

Springfield will travel to United next Friday night.

Columbiana will look to bounce back next week when they travel to Southern Local.
