An extensive cold front will bring widespread showers and thunderstorms to the Southeast, Midwest, and Northeast on Saturday, while a separate cold front will bring wet weather to the Pacific Northwest.
A cold front extending from Texas to New England will bring showers and thunderstorms to a great majority of the East Coast on Saturday, as multiple low pressure systems will be embedded in the cold front. Texas will get plenty of relief from their drought as remnants of Tropical Cyclone Manuel will feed moisture into a low pressure system sitting off of southeast Texas. Parts of Texas, as well as Louisiana, Mississippi,and Alabama, may experience flash flooding as thunderstorms will produce heavy rainfall for extended periods of time.
Rain from the same cold front may also bring flooding to the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, as a separate low pressure system is expected to move over the Ohio Valley on Saturday. Pennsylvania, New York, and parts of southwest New England will be the most prone to flooding as this low pressure will feed moisture in from the south. Northern Maine is likely to avoid wet weather on Saturday as the cold front is expected to brush past the region.
Meanwhile, a relatively strong cold front for this time of year will move through the Pacific Northwest on Saturday, bringing some early rains to Washington, Oregon,and in particular northern California. Rain may extend as far south as Central California, although it will be fairly scattered. Temperatures are expected to drop 5 to 10 degrees as a result of the cold front. The Southwest will avoid wet weather on Saturday, although temperatures may drop a bit due to the previously mentioned cold front.
The Great Basin will also experience spotty showers and thunderstorms, which may not bode well for recently active flood zones in the Rockies.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday have ranged from a morning low of 21 degrees at Stanley, Idaho to a high of 98 degrees at Goodyear, Ariz.
