Animal guards will protect power lines

Animal guards

COLUMBIANA, Ohio (WKBN) — The city of Columbiana has taken steps to protect its power lines.

The city manager said squirrels have been destroying electrical lines and substations throughout the city, causing numerous power outages. So the city recently purchased electrostatic animal guards.

The devices emit a small shock to the animals, not enough to injure them, but hopefully stop them from chewing on the wires. The city purchased 100 of the guards for just under $1,200.
