Sorority holds book bag giveaway

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A giveaway was held at a Youngstown school on Thursday to help keep students stocked up with supplies.

Members of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority gave away 50 book bags filled with school supplies at Martin Luther King School on Mariner Avenue. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority President Dr. Michelle McCollin said they added rulers, flash cards, a dictionary and a thesaurus to the packs to help students who may not be able to purchase those bigger ticket items.

“It lets the kids see there are organizations out here that are in support of them as well as give support to the parents, and to the school in general. It raises esteem,” said McCollin.

The sorority will hold a book bag giveaway at Williamson Elementary next week and will also provide children with test prep materials in the spring for state testing.
