Bank sues embattled funeral home

GIRARD, Ohio (WKBN) — Farmers National Bank is suing a Girard funeral home for unpaid loans.

According to court records, Farmers National Bank filed the $274,044 lawsuit in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court on Thursday.

The suit names the funeral home along with Robert J. McClurkin, Karen M. McClurkin, Patrick J. McClurkin and Tamara T. McClurkin.

The McClurkin Funeral Home, 222 S. Main St. in Girard, and its owners, Patrick J. McClurkin and Robert J. McClurkin, has had its licenses suspended by the Ohio Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors.

The board suspended the funeral director’s licenses and the embalmers licenses following an investigation. A statement from the board says Robert and Patrick McClurkin are accused of stealing more than $400,000 from numerous customers and “placed the funeral services of these individuals in clear jeopardy.”

The statement says the funeral home violated Ohio laws regarding the placement of money received for pre-paid funeral contracts and the case has been referred to the Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office for possible criminal charges.
