C-Span to highlight former first lady from Ohio

WASHINGTON (AP) — C-Span will feature a former first lady from Ohio on an episode of its “First Ladies: Influence and Image” series.

The episode featuring Florence Harding and a visit to the Harding Home and Museum in Marion is set to air Monday at 9 p.m. EDT on C-Span networks.

C-Span said in a release previewing the program that the wife of former President Warren G. Harding played a major role in her husband’s 1920 campaign. She managed her husband’s contacts, lobbied delegates on his behalf at the Republican convention and helped write his public remarks.

As first lady, she ordered the White House windows and gates opened to the public and led public tours.

Warren Harding died in office in 1923. His widow died a year later.
