YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — A candidate for Youngstown mayor is taking a leave from his job.

DeMaine Kitchen decided to take a leave of absence as the mayor’s chief of secretary to concentrate on his campaign.

Kitchen will begin his leave starting September 30 and the leave will run thru November 11.

He is using a week of vacation time and the rest of his leave will be without pay. Kitchen earns over $74,000 a year in his position.

Election day is about six weeks away.
