DELAWARE TOWNSHIP, Pennsylvania (WKBN) — The Mercer County coroner was called to the scene of a fatal accident in Delaware Township on Sunday morning.

Police confirm that Jeffrey Benninghoff, 29, of Fredonia was driving on Delaware Road around 8:30 a.m. when he swerved to avoid a bicyclist, spun off the road and hit a telephone pole.

The passenger, Chandra Kodali, 32, also of Fredonia, was pronounced dead at the scene.

It took emergency crews several hours to retrieve the body because they first had to secure the wreckage that was holding up the pole.

Benninghoff was taken by helicopter to a hospital and is listed as critical.
