2 men held in 8 NW Pa. church burglaries, attempts

POLK, Pa. (AP) — State police say two men jailed on charges they burglarized a northwestern Pennsylvania church have since confessed to seven other church break-ins, or attempts, since Friday.

Online court records don’t list attorneys for 31-year-old Oil City men John Biddle and Steven Kostenbauder.

They were arrested about 4:30 a.m. when troopers responded to a burglar alarm at the North Sandy Presbyterian Church near Polk borough on Monday.

Police say the men then confessed to seven other burglaries or attempts involving churches in neighboring Crawford and Venango counties since about 3 p.m. Friday.

The men face a preliminary hearing Oct. 9 in the North Sandy break-in. Police say they men were looking for cash and other valuables.
