Teacher surprised with check in Boardman

BOARDMAN, Ohio — A third grade teacher at Boardman’s West Boulevard Elementary school was surprised Tuesday morning with a check for $1,000.

LeAnne Snyder was nominated by her principal last May for the Office Max Award. The award is part of the office supply store’s “A Day Made Better” program.

Mrs. Snyder had no idea she was even nominated.

Office Max said the program is designed to end teacher funding of classroom supplies.

“There were folders and crayons. Just, especially nowadays it’s just so hard. So, it’s great to have these supplies to be able to help kids who come up and say I don’t have something. Most teachers will just go get it. So, it’s nice to just pull something from that box and help them out,” said Snyder.

Office Max said that on average, teachers spend about a thousand dollars of their own money for classroom supplies.
