Students pave path in park

POLAND, Ohio (WKBN) — It was a perfect day Wednesday to clean up and improve Peterson Park in the center of Poland.

Students in the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center’s horticulture program removed the crushed brick walkway in preparation for the installation of new brick pavers to make the area more handicap accessible. They also pruned and weeded in the gardens.

The senior and junior students worked alongside their teacher Mary Emerson and her son, Jared Emerson. Jared Emerson does landscape work for Davey Tree Company, which donated the equipment for the project.

“It really gives the students a good idea of what a real work environment is like,” said Emerson.

Elliott’s Garden Center donated the materials.

The group will be back out Thursday and Friday to finish the project.
