West Branch standout Melinda Trimmer has verbally committed to play basketball with the Youngstown State Women’s Basketball program.
Last season, Trimmer helped lead the Warriors, to a record of 23-3 overall. West Branch also won the Northeastern Buckeye Conference with an NBC record of 12-2. Trimmer led the Lady Warriors in scoring, assists, steals and free throw percentage while shooting 43% in three-point field goal percentage.
“I’m so blessed to have the opportunity to play at the next level for Coach Barnes and Youngstown State. With this decision behind me, I can now focus on my team and helping the Lady Warriors reach our team goals,” said Trimmer. Trimmer’s father is a ’94 YSU graduate and her two brothers are currently YSU students.
In the past two years, with Trimmer as their point guard, the Lady Warriors were 44-6 overall and 24-4 in the NBC. The Lady Warriors advanced both years to the district championship game finishing as district runner-up.
Trimmer’s basketball honors include being named 2013 NBC Player of the Year, 1st team northeast Ohio inland district, All-Ohio special mention, and being named 1st team NBC the past two years. In 2008, Trimmer finished 4th in the nation at the Elks National Hoop Shoot free throw competition in Springfield, Massachusetts after winning the Great Lakes Regional and Ohio state competitions.
Trimmer intends to study biology and pre-med at Youngstown State University pursuing a career as a dentist and orthodontist.
