At least 45 dead from attacks in Baghdad

BAGHDAD (AP) — A coordinated wave of evening bombings in Baghdad has raised the death toll from a series of attacks today across Iraq.

At least 45 people were killed. It’s the third day in a row that insurgents were able to carry out attacks that killed dozens.

Police officials say eight different neighborhoods were targeted by the rapid-fire wave of bombings in the Iraqi capital after nightfall.

More than 5,000 people have been killed since violent attacks began accelerating in April. They include more than 50 Shiite pilgrims who were killed Saturday in a Baghdad suicide bombing.
