A Warren mother was arrested after police found several bindles of heroin in her vehicle where two children under the age of 10 were passengers.

According to police reports, Lavia Broadnax, 29, 648 Phillips Drive, Warren, was stopped about 1 a.m. Tuesday on South Street after failing to signal before turning off of Highland Avenue.

During the traffic stop, police discovered several plastic baggies in her vehicle, including 42 bindles of heroin and two baggies containing marijuana.

Broadnax was driving under suspension and police suspected she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, though the arresting officer noted in the report he did not smell alcohol on the suspect.

There were two children in the vehicle ages 10 and 2. Broadnax told police one of the girls was her daughter and the other was her niece.

Broadnax was arrested and charged with trafficking in drugs, endangering children and drug abuse.

Broadnax’s mother was called and took custody of the children.
