Fire breaks out at Vienna business

Kleese Excavating fire

VIENNA, Ohio (WKBN) – Emergency crews worked to contain a fire late Thursday morning at a Trumbull County business.

The fire broke out about 11 a.m. at Kleese Excavating, 5061 Warren Sharon Road at the corner of Sodom Hutchings Road and Warren Sharon Road (Route 82).

According to Matt Kleese, an employee smelled something burning and opened a refrigerator in a storage building when flames erupted from the appliance and spread up an interior wall.

“My dad and him, we had six fire extinguishers. They did everything they could trying to get it put out. Finally, it just went up the back wall, and it happened in the blink of an eye,” said Kleese. “They got out of there and everybody was safe, thank God.”

The family also owns a brine disposal well business for the oil and gas industry, but that was located safely behind the burning garage.

No injuries were reported and there is no damage estimate at this time.
