SALEM, Ohio (WKBN) – A Salem man is behind bars and charged in the stabbing and wounding of his mother.
Police arrested Derek Ball, 24, after he was released from Saint Elizabeth Health Center on Wednesday. He is charged with one count of felonious assault.
Ball appeared in Columbiana County Municipal Court on Thursday where his bond was set at $250,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 27.
Ball had been in the hospital since the Jan.12 altercation with his mother, Josee Wilson, 43, inside Wilson’s Home Circle residence.
According to Salem Police Chief T.J. Panezott, Ball attacked Wilson stabbing her multiple times before running out of the house. He was found a short time later in a nearby residential area with what appeared to be self-inflected knife wounds.
Ball was taken to the hospital where he was under surveillance by Humility of Mary Health Partners security staff until his release Wednesday afternoon.
Wilson was hospitalized for wounds to her head, chest and arms. She has since been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
