The public library of Youngstown and Mahoning County unveiled its plans for a new Canfield branch on Thursday evening.
Plans for the branch, which will be on the same site as the current branch, have been in the works for about 10 years.
Thursday was the first opportunity for both the board and the community to look at the proposal and offer suggestions.
Heidi Daniel, executive director of the system, said that in addition to more space, the library will offer expanded services, especially of the digital variety.
“The library has definitely changed from a place where you come in, get a book and go home. We offer a lot of digital services now. Ebooks, streaming video, streaming tv shows, streaming music, downloadable audio books so there’s a whole vir tual branch that is available to people all over the county,” said Daniel.
In addition to the digital services, Daniel said plans also include a larger kids and family area, and an adult tech center.
The system aims to break ground in late summer or early fall.
