Car goes over ravine

WEATHERSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) – A McDonald woman is lucky to be alive after she lost control of her SUV and flipped over into a ravine Friday morning.

The crash was captured on surveillance video taken from the Checkered Express on West Liberty Street about 10 a.m. The video shows the Pontiac Aztec on its side sliding into the guardrail and then flipping over before it slid down into the ravine about 75 to 100 feet.

The 27-year-old woman managed to crawl out of the car. She was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Billy Key, safety director for the Checkered Express, said there have been several bad accidents at that location.

“It’s very bad. The speed limit is 45 and people just fly around the curve constantly. And we got tractor trailers pulling in and out,” Key said.

Sgt. Jeff Klem with the Warren Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the woman, whose name has not yet been released, is very lucky.

“It’s a very steep ravine with lots of rocks. Very lucky she didn’t get more seriously injured,” Klem said.

The patrol said they will likely cite her for the crash.
