Steel Bowl discontinued

Farrell and Sharon have played some classic high school football games in the annual Steel Bowl, with the Steelers winning five straight meetings.  But, Farrell will not have a chance for a sixth straight this Fall.

In a release sent from Farrell Superintendent Lora Adams-King, the Steel Bowl will be discontinued for the next two years thanks to the recent football merge with Kennedy Catholic.

The release says, “Due to the recent redefining of the Sharon High School football program and the subsequent requests and issues that have followed, we regret that we will not participate in the Steel Bowl during the upcoming season.  We extend best wishes to the athletes and organization of this newly formed teamed.”

Sources also tell WKBN that Wilmington will also cease playing Sharon in football.
