MYCAP seeking volunteers

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Mahoning Youngstown Community Action Partnership (MYCAP) in Youngstown is looking for volunteers to help with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

The VITA Program offers free tax help to eligible individuals and families in Mahoning County who make $52,000 or less and need assistance in preparing their own basic tax return.

Volunteers are needed to prepare basic income tax returns. Volunteers will be trained online and will then be asked to donate a couple hours per week or month to file tax returns.

Locally, MYCAP prepared more than 425 tax returns for tax year 2012 in 2013.

Later this year MYCAP will offer the free tax assistance to the community in the evenings and on select Saturday’s.

Individuals interested in becoming a volunteer tax preparer should contact Jim Johnston at 330-747-7921, ext. 1203.
