Ohio man convicted in shooting over license plates

GAVEL-OHIO

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – A jury has convicted a central Ohio man who fatally shot another man in 2012 during an argument over license plates.

The Franklin County jury rejected a self-defense claim by Brandon L. Hobbs in finding him guilty Monday of murder with a gun specification, carrying a concealed weapon and illegally possessing a firearm.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that the shooting of 26-year-old Jaron L. Kirkling in November 2012 resulted from an argument over a car Hobbs sold to him. Kirkling didn’t change the license plates, and Hobbs became angry when he got a speed-camera citation because the plates were still registered to him.

Hobbs faces life in prison with no parole possibility for 18 years when he is sentenced Feb. 26.
