Ed Rozum was unanimously approved as Campbell’s new head football coach on Tuesday night at the school board meeting.
This will be Rozum’s fourth stint as Red Devil head coach. He previously coached the program from 1978-81, 1985-91, and 1999. He’s been assistant principal at Campbell Memorial the past two years, and felt after working with the kids at the school, it was the right time to return to coaching.
“It’s something I’ve always kept up. It’s something I’ve always loved doing. Last year I got to work iwth a lot of the kids here, and they’re great kids. I just felt that at this time, let’s try it one more time and see how it goes.”
Rozum, a Campbell native, joked that not only has the game changed since he last coached, but also the technology. “They don’t even use VCR tapes anymore, everything’s on Huddle and you just download it, and it breaks down the film for you. I started back when they had 16mm film, and after the game you had to go down to Crescent Street and pick up your film at 2 o’clock in the morning after it got developed, and you’d sit down at watch film afterwards. I thought VCR’s were great.”
Rozum inherits a team that finished 3-7 in 2013. He plans on meeting with the student athletes later this week.
