Homeless counted in Trumbull

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) — Basement Outreach Ministries and the Trumbull County Mental Health and Recovery Board on Wednesday offered a special meal to the homeless of Trumbull County.

In addition to providing a hot meal, the ministry also passed out blankets, socks, hats and gloves to people who needed them.

Trumbull County used the event to take a survey and census of the homeless.

“We know that there are homeless out there that we’re not finding, that we’re not reaching,” said Tabitha Johnson with Trumbull Metropolitan Housing Authority. “It’s not like people go out there and announce to the world, ‘Hey, I’m homeless.'”

The information collected will help the county qualify for state and federal grants.

“It’s a challenge, but it’s an important population to find, so we can provide services,” Johnson said.
