Niles shoplifting suspects surrender

Mall robbery suspects

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) — Two women wanted in connection to a shoplifting incident earlier this week at the Eastwood Mall Macy’s turned themselves in to police on Friday morning.

Surveillance video pictures of the suspects were posted on the police department’s Facebook page and aired on local media Thursday.

The incident occurred about 7  p.m. Monday. A police report states one of the women stole a shirt and sweater valued at $100.

When the security guard tried to stop the women, one of them said to the other “shoot them,” and the other woman reached into her purse as if to grab a weapon, according to a police report.

One of the women told the security guard to get out of the way or she would shoot, the report states. After the incident, the women got into a dark-colored Acura.

Niles Police Capt. Ken Criswell said the suspects were questioned Friday and released without charges being filed. He said detectives will meet with Macy’s security and the Niles City prosecutor on Monday to determine what charges will be filed.
