Skating returns to Lily Pond

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – They say that for every cloud, there is a silver-lining. And that may be the case for a treasured location in the Valley.

Thursday afternoon, workers with Mill Creek MetroParks were clearing several inches of snow off the Lily Pond in anticipation of ice skaters.

The recent subzero temperatures have created about an eight inch layer of ice, which officials say is enough to safely skate on the pond.

Beginning Saturday, the park will be permitting free-style skating with an extra area cleared for ice hockey.
