GIRARD, Ohio (WKBN) – A spaghetti benefit dinner was held in Girard today to help raise funds to help area children and honor the memory of three people who died nearly 10 years ago.

This is the seventh year for the Lena Mason Christian Memorial Fund’s spaghetti dinner.  The organization is in memory of Lena Cross and her two son’s 5 -year old Mason Cross and 2-year old Christian Pizzulo who died in a house fire Sept. 13, 2005.  Lena was also stabbed before the fire was set.  No one was ever arrested in the case.

Money raised from the event will go towards the annual Kids Fun Day and Book bag giveaway the organization puts on each year.

“We don’t only do the bookbag giveaway. We help out at Christmas time. We help out throughout the year. We’ll just get phone calls… if there was a house fire or children are put in circumstances because of their parents,” said Cindy Michael, organizer.

Last year, the organization handed out 450 book bags with supplies to area children.
