Man charged for shooting girl in head

Court jury jail law order cell prison

CLEVELAND (AP) – An ex-convict has been indicted in Cleveland in the death of a 5-year-old girl shot in the head while sitting in a vehicle with her mother.

The prosecutor’s office said Monday that a Cuyahoga County grand jury indicted Geoffrey Gurkovich, 32, of Cleveland, on 18 counts, including aggravated murder and attempted murder. He faces arraignment Wednesday.

No attorney was listed for Gurkovich in the felony court docket. He earlier pleaded not guilty in Municipal Court on an aggravated murder charge filed by city prosecutors.

Gurkovich is accused of killing Jermani Brooks last month. Her mother was wounded.

Police said the girl was not the intended target and allege Gurkovich intended to shoot a man who got into an argument with his girlfriend.
