Brothers plead not guilty in triple slaying

AKRON, Ohio (AP) – Two northeast Ohio brothers pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder in a New Year’s Eve robbery-shooting that killed a man and his two teenage children.

Separate arraignments for Michael Hendon, 22, and Eric Hendon, 30, were held Tuesday before a judge in Akron.

They were indicted in January on charges also including attempted murder, aggravated robbery and felonious assault in the Barberton slayings.

They could face the death penalty if convicted.

They were arrested Jan. 3 after 42-year-old John Kohler died at an Akron hospital. Authorities said Kohler’s children, Ashley Carpenter, 18, and David Kohler-Carpenter, 14, died in the shootings at their father’s home.

John Kohler’s girlfriend was wounded.

Eric Hendon was released from prison in June after finishing a 13-year sentence for shooting a woman.
