Career students honored for YSU competition

CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) — More than 200 area students were honored Tuesday morning for participating in a business competition at Youngstown State University.

The Mahoning County Career and Technical Center hosted the Regional Business Professionals of America Awards Banquet. Students from MCCTC, as well as the Trumbull Career and Technical Center and Columbiana County Career and Technical Center, received awards.

Top winners will head to Columbus for a state competition in March. Educators said it’s a great way to teach students skills they can apply when they start their business careers.

“We are preparing our students for the future for different skill sets, whether it be word processing to web design to networking to presentation management,” said Helen Slack, a computer information technology instructor at MCCTC.

Students who win at the state level will head to a national competition at the end of April.
