Joint found on suspects at Campbell jail

CAMPBELL, Ohio (WKBN) — Two suspects already in police custody in Campbell on minor offenses now are facing more serious charges for what was done in a holding room on Sunday.

Campbell Police Sgt. John Rusnak said Samuel Buxton of Campbell was sitting in the holding room at the city jail with Eddie Pierce III, 22, of Austintown, when he saw Buxton toss something to Pierce while watching the surveillance video.

Rusnak said the item appeared to be contraband and Pierce placed it down the front of his pants. Rusnak said he went to the holding room to investigate and Buxton admitted it was a marijuana cigarette.

He said police do pat downs for weapons at the jail, but they do not look for joints.

Buxton was originally being held on a probation violation and is now facing a felony charge of bringing narcotics into a jail facility. Pierce was arrested on a bench warrant and is now facing a charge of drug possession.

Both men will be arraigned on Friday. Pierce is at the Mahoning County Jail, but Buxton was not listed on the inmate roster.
