Lilly Pond opens up for ice skating again

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Grab the skates!  The ice is still thick enough for skating at the Lily Pond. Skaters are sliding around on the pond for the first time in 25 years.

On Wednesday, our cameras caught kids walking and sliding around, mostly in their shoes and one guy on ice skates.

That was David Amos, a teacher from Poland who had a snow day from school and went skating outdoors for the first time.

“I know it’ll be different, already I can kind of tell that obviously they’re not going to take a Zamboni out here to smooth out the ice, so that might be interesting for me. I don’t know if I’ll fall, hopefully not,” Amos said.

People can skate Friday afternoons, plus Saturdays and Sundays as long as the ice stays thick enough.

Right now there’s one section that looks shaky and is marked off with orange cones.
