Dr. Shayesteh: Sugar and heart disease

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) — Dr. Shayesteh said for the first time, new research shows a direct correlation between sugar intake and heart disease.

He said too much sugar contributes to increased abdominal fat, which leads to insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes. He said Type 2 diabetes is a high risk factor for heart disease.

However, he said too much sugar also can lead to increased blood pressure, which is another risk factor for heart disease.
