Man sentenced in child porn case

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A Niles man pleaded guilty Thursday to downloading dozens of images of child pornography onto his computer.

William Brock, 65, appeared in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court, where he pleaded guilty to 35 counts of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor. He was immediately sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Despite his plea, Brock still maintained his innocence and said he was not a pedophile. But prosecutors said he is a pedophile and a menace to the community.

“I think the volume of this case was significant. Mr. Brock admitted to going out into the community and fantasizing about young females at softball games,” said Trumbull County Assistant Prosecutor Gabe Wildman.

Not to mention what they found on his home computer. Prosecutors said Brock had thousands of sexually explicit pictures and videos of little children on his computer, including a little girl from Austintown. Many of the images found on the computer depicted prepubescent children as young as 2 in various sexual situations, including sodomy and oral sex with adult males, females and other children.

Brock, known to neighbors as Santa Claus because of his white beard and rotund body, was arrested during a July 19 raid at his Mason Street home in Niles.

Agents with the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation along with FBI agents and Niles police took boxes of evidence and computers from the home.

Connie Ramirez, 43, of Austintown, pleaded guilty in September to three counts of rape and one count of pandering obscenity involving a minor. The former daycare worker was sharing the pornographic video she took of a relative  with Brock.

During an investigation into child pornography charges surrounding Brock, police uncovered several photos of a child in sexual situations and traced the photos back to a cell phone and Ramirez. Some of the photos also included sexually explicit images involving a canine and Ramirez.

Ramirez was sentenced to 25 years in prison without the possibility of parole. She is also classified as a Tier 3 sex offender and will have to register her address with the county sheriff’s office for the rest of her life.

Prosecutors said they are confident Brock’s 20-year sentence will become a life sentence because of his age. But if he does serve the entire sentence, he will have to register as a sex offender.
