Legislators tour Goodwill Industries

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) — Several state lawmakers took a tour of a Trumbull County charity that they are losing weight to raise money for.

State Sen. Joe Schiavoni, along with state representatives Sean O’Brien of Hubbard, Bob Hagan of Youngstown, Tom Letson of Warren and Ron Gerberry of Austintown, got an inside look at Goodwill Industries in Liberty.

The group is taking part in the 13th annual Tribune Chronicle Fitness Challenge with the money they raise going toward Goodwill. Executive Director Mike McBride said most people know that about their thrift stores and that they take donations, but Goodwill does a lot more than that, including employing special needs persons at their agency and also getting those clients jobs in the community.

The lawmakers are calling themselves the Soon-to-be Skinny D’s  for the competition because they are all Democrats. The team that loses the largest percentage of weight overall wins the 10-week competition.

The lawmakers are in 28th place out of 48 teams after three weeks of weigh-ins with 3.64 percent of their starting weight lost.
