Video shows robbery suspect

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Youngstown police are still looking for a suspect who robbed a cab driver last week.

Surveillance video has been released in the hopes that someone will recognize the suspect and call police.

The footage is from surveillance cameras at the Circle K convenience store on Mahoning Avenue.

According to police reports, Michael Burkett, of Warren, was driving an independent taxi on Feb. 6 when he got a call to pick up a fare at about 5 a.m. at 141 Wesley Avenue in Youngstown.

A male entered the cab and told Burkett to take him to the Circle K store. The man attempted to purchase tobacco at the store, but didn’t have an ID and the clerk would not sell him the products.

The man then told Burkett to take him to Jordan’s Market on Market Street where he was able to purchase cigarettes. Burkett then drove the man back to Wesley Avenue.

When Burkett pulled up to the house on Wesley, the suspect pulled a gun and demanded cash and Burkett’s cell phone. The suspect then took off on foot from the cab.

The driver went back to the Circle K to call police. He was not injured in the robbery.

If you recognize the suspect or have any information in the crime, call Youngstown police 330-742-8900.
