Consortium promotes Northeast Ohio growth

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A local group wants to bring awareness of their goal to promote growth in Northeast Ohio and the collaboration of the 12 counties involved.

Vibrant NEO 2040 is an initiative by the Northeast Ohio Sustainable Communities Consortium that explores the region’s long-term development patterns to build a stronger Northeast Ohio. The group focuses on planning efforts for land use, transportation, economic and workforce development, and infrastructure investments.

The 12 counties involved in the effort are Mahoning, Trumbull, Portage, Ashtabula, Geauga, Cuyahoga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Summit, Stark and Wayne.

“A framework for the future that 12 counties across Northeast Ohio can use to understand what’s going on, where the trends are leading the our community and what some of the choices are and what some of the opportunities are,” said Hunter Morrison of the NEOSCC.

Morrison said it will take a collaborative effort between the surrounding counties to buck the trend and bring people and jobs back to the region.

“What you are seeing in various parts of the region is the desire to find a better balance. To build and rebuild in our core neighborhoods, to hold onto the good places. We need to bring those up to the current taste, but also meet the demand for new at the edges, but do it in a more balanced way.
