Student Athlete: Jake Wolfe

Jake Wolfe is a competitor.  On the football field, Poland’s senior quarterback threw for over 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns in just 7 games.  He was injured in week 8, and missed the rest of the season under center.

“You know it was hard, because we were 7-0.  And I was having fun.  And then to get hurt in that game and end up losing, it was heartbreakin,” he said.

But a broken thumb didn’t put a damper on his basketball season.  The All-state performer is averaging 12.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and two blocks a game for the Bulldogs.

“Coming from football into basketball, totally different sports conditioning wise.  In football you can run around out there, but you get on the basketball court, and it’s totally different.  I was gasping for air.  The first game I could barely run up and down the court.  But it just takes time to get back,” he added.

As a junior basketball standout, Jake was 1st team All-Conference and All-District.  He was Special Mention All-State his junior year as well.

Wolfe is putting his all in the classroom too.  A member of Spanish Club and Class hall of fame, he has a 3.83 grade point average.

“You’ve got to study.  It’s kind of like sports.  You gotta put that hard work in so when the test comes, when the game comes, you can perform well and succeed,” said Wolfe.
